Pioneer's Technical Audio Devices in 2015 has the exact same Wing / Pegasus cabinet shape US Enclosure developed and published in the late 1990's. One of their designer's here in the US that we will call "A J " has been on our email list for over Ten Years.  They never asked for a manufacturing quote even though our manufacturing plant is 20 miles away from their USA HQ and our cabinet materials are much better than what they are using.   "Emulation" by company like Pioneer can be viewed as a Compliment (even without the money).



Column PA Loudspeaker Cabinets



Column Loudspeakers are designed around voice coherence and intelligibility.    Consequently, these units are among the strongest candidates for diffraction reducing cabinets.

 

Yet, no company produces cabinets with shapes which will reduce diffraction in the frequencies column loudspeakers are focused on.


The August 2017 Live sound Magazine article titled "Expanding Horizons" has 22 featurettes of Column PA Sound Systems from 21 manufacturers.  The following picture emerges of "typical" Column PA units, as follows.  Not all systems use all driver types listed.

US Enclosure suggests the following design changes to improve diffraction levels:

For Diffraction Reduction purposes, from the front, the unit would look like a tube.


We recommend from the top view cabinet shape geometry named “Moss's Egg” but many other curved shapes could be used. The flat side on the top-view image would be about 4 to 6 inches wide and the shape could be widened toward the bottom of the cabinet for low frequency drivers while maintaining a curved shape. 


With a 5” wide front, using the Moss's Egg geometry and a tube shaped front-view the diffraction effects would be lowered or eliminated down to 338 Hz.  Compare to a 0.25 radius corner, has little effect on diffraction due to the flat panels but ought to eliminate diffraction above 5700 Hz.
