HOW TO GET A
REAR CHANNEL OR SURROUND SOUND
ON ANY STEREO

The first step is to locate both the Left positive lead AND the Right positive lead
from the amplifier. Positive leads are usually color-coded red or have stripes or some other identifying mark. However,
this is not always given. In the case of certain multimedia speakers, for example, it
is necessary to take apart the unit containing the amplifier in order to make a
connection to one of these positive speaker wires, since the wire does not
leave the cabinet. The only other option is to use an additional amplifier
connected in parallel at the source (in other words, spliced off the sound card) to
drive the rear channel.
Once both positive leads have been located, either a single rear channel OR two
Surround Sound style channels may be easily established. Merely connect using
the diagram below. If only a single rear channel is to be connected, simply connect
the speaker across both positive leads.
